Welcome to Speaking of Movies! The purpose of this blog is to allow you into our conversation and thoughts about movies. We will be looking primarily at movies currently in theaters and recently released movies, but occasionally will try to look back at classic movies and others that have become "cult-classics" in order to deepen our appreciation of movies that define culture and to let others into the conversation.
The blog will be a transcript of the highlights from our conversation, and we also provide our own personal recommendations for movies and methods for rating (see more here). We tailored our rating system to emphasize the elements of stories and characters that set apart great movies from forgettable movies. Our rating system is based on a 1-5 scale (1 is lowest, 5 is highest), with an overall rating at the end. Finally, we conclude with a recommendation about the movie. Our recommendation is meant to sum up our overall impression, as well as give advice on the best means of viewing the movie. Great movies compel a viewer to go out of their way to see it in theaters. Lesser films can be viewed at one's convenience at home, if at all.
